Farm Journey
NYE RANCH
In 2015 we moved from Chico, CA to build a farm from scratch at the historic Nye Ranch on the Mendocino Coast in Fort Bragg, CA. We were instantly humbled by the immense challenges of running our own farm. From cover crops that wouldn’t grow, extreme salty coastal wind and fog, fields flooding from years of compaction, large crop failures, the list goes on. You name it, we’ve made the mistake and learned from it. Every year we worked harder, experimented more, and laughed off the tough stuff. We sold at two farmers markets a week, ran a weekly farmstand and sold to so many wonderful restaurants and grocery stores there. (We miss y’all!) We had so much fun we even got married and had a baby in the old hay barn. The little coastal community was incredibly good to us but after five years by the sea we were feeling a pull to be closer to home.
We were offered an opportunity to lease Riverhill Farm in Nevada City and decided we’d give it a go. While the land was beautiful and the community wonderful, the farm and lease didn’t end up meeting our expectations and we needed to move on yet again. This time we would actually be coming home.
BURNS BLOSSOM FARM
We are thrilled to be farming at two central locations in town. Our primary 3/4 acre market garden is at The Barber Yard at the entrance to the historic Diamond Match factory. We are also farming four acres 2 miles down the street at a larger scale at our home farm. Needless to say, we are feeling incredibly thankful for these plots of soil to put down new roots.
